A warm welcome from the Organising Committee of the 11th International Symposium on Biomolecular Archaeology! We are delighted and honoured that you chose to vote for ISBA11 to be held in Turin, taking the conference to Italy for the first time.

We had an exceptional number of submissions and registrations from 40 countries – THANK YOU! We are looking forward to welcoming you very soon!

Practical information:

You can find out abstract book here!

Registration

  • Opens on 26th at 10:00 AM and closes at 17:30 at the Aldo Moro building, main Lobby (yep, go down the steps!). After registering, you can head to the Musei Reali di Torino (MRT)/Piazzetta Reale — our second conference venue — to put up your poster (see below: you’ll need the number that you will find in the poster programme) or start exploring.
  • General registration times at Aldo Moro:
    • Tuesday, August 26th from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM
    • Wednesday, August 27th from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
    • Thursday, August 28th from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
    • Friday, August 29th from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM
  • Wearing the congress badge is compulsory at all times. In case you forget your badge, please contact the registration desk.
  • In your “personal area” on the registration portal you will find the Invoice and the Certificate of attendance (download area). If you do not remember your login details, ask our team at the registration desk.

Speakers & Chairs

  • Please load your presentation at registration – there will be a dedicated computer at the desk. Ask our team! Powerpoint & pdf are advised.
  • At the latest, slides must be loaded by the coffee break before your session, again using the dedicated laptop.
  • Session chairs, please liaise with our team to make sure all the presentations are loaded before the session you are chairing and, at the end of your session, remind everyone to load any missing talks during the breaks.
  • 🎤 Full-Length Podium Presentations
Podium presentations will last a maximum of 15 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for questions.
  • ⏱️ Flash Talks (Espresso Talks)
Flash talks should be a maximum of 5 minutes and discuss the contents of your related poster. After every few flash talks, there will be additional time for questions.

Posters

  • To accommodate the large number of posters: Posters should be size B1 (70.7 × 100 cm, portrait orientation).
  • If you would like to print locally, Copysprinter (Via delle Rosine 4, Turin) is open in August and is within walking distance of the venues. We are attaching a simple template with the details you can send directly to the printer when requesting your poster print to simplify the process. Please remember to contact them well in advance!
  • Please place your poster in the numbered spot assigned to you in the poster programme. Volunteers in ISBA11 t-shirts will meet you at MRT and will assist you with this and give you the dot stickers for prizes.
  • Please remember that posters are displayed in a public space, so keep this in mind when preparing your material.
  • Posters must be taken down after the Friday poster session (after lunch).

Mobility Between Venues

If you are concerned about mobility between Aldo Moro and MRT, please let us know — we’ll be happy to assist and help find a solution.

Welcome Cocktail

At 18:00 sharp on the 26th, we’ll gather for the welcome cocktail and the official opening of the conference at the MRT, in the gardens & Roman Theatre. Don’t miss it! (Badge required – register first)

Conference Start

  • On 27th at 08:30, we begin with a short welcome and the first invited speaker at the main conference venue, the Aldo Moro building.
  • All invited talks will be live-streamed on UniTo Media: https://media.unito.it/

Coffee & Lunch breaks

  • Coffee breaks will be served at Aldo Moro.
  • Lunch will be at MRT, together with the poster sessions.
  • All dietary requirements have been passed on to the catering companies.

Overflow Rooms

  • Invited talks take place in the auditorium. As space is limited to 400 people, room S1 will be video-linked for overflow.
  • More generally, every room will have an overflow option — just follow the signs and the map attached.
  • We kindly ask you to use the main conference rooms first, and only move to overflow if really needed.
  • Volunteers with microphones will assist you if you’d like to ask questions from overflow rooms.

Parallel Sessions & Quiet Time

The three parallel sessions will make ISBA11 unforgettable but also intense.

  • If you need a moment of quiet, you’ll find plenty of cafés just above the conference venue where you can step out, recharge, and return refreshed.

Conference Dinner

  • The dinner on the 28th will be at MAUTO – Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile https://www.museoauto.com/ and will include a tour of the museum (car typology! What’s not to love!?).
  • Dedicated buses for transport to and from MAUTO will be provided – we will leave from Piazza Vittorio (near Aldo Moro) straight after the end of the sessions, so that we can get to the venue on time for tour & food!

Prizes

For poster prizes, our volunteers in ISBA11 team T-shirts at MRT will give you a dot sticker to mark your poster for the judges.

  • For talk prizes, please place the appropriate sticker(s) (attached) on your slides so the judges can easily identify eligible talks.
  • You will only be considered for prizes if you have filled the form. If you have not yet filled the form, you have until midnight, 21/08/2025
